Attention Community and Faith-based Leaders: Join the H1N1 Call with U.S. Dept. of Health & Human Services on Tue. December 15

WASHINGTON, DC – Do you have thoughts about how to deal with H1N1? Do you want to learn more about what to do to prevent or address the swine flu epidemic? Here’s your chance.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is inviting community and faith-based organizations in the New England region to participate in “Supporting the Role of Community and Faith-based Organizations in the H1N1 Flu Response and in the Economic Recovery Through Human Services,” a Region One (New England) Regional Conference Call. It happens tomorrow, on Tuesday, December 15, 2009, from 10:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. Eastern Standard Time.

According to announcements being emailed to public and community health workers:

National and region one federal officials will highlight ways that faith-based and community organizations can help in the flu prevention and response effort, including outreach to hard-to-reach populations. The importance of vaccinations, fears and misinformation will also be addressed. Additionally, there will be an overview of H1N1 Flu: A Guide for Community and Faith-Based Organizations.

Officials will also highlight human services programs to support families in economic recovery. These programs include:

* Head Start and Child Care Programs
* Temporary Assistance for Needy Families
* Assets for Independence Initiative
* Children’s Health Insurance Program
* Disability Program
* Emergency Preparedness and Response Program;
* Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program
