YWCA Seeks Nominations for Women of Achievement Awards 2009

The eleven award categories for 2009 are eliminating racism, empowering women, promoting peace, promoting justice, promoting freedom, promoting dignity, improving access to healthcare, increasing women’s income, protecting from hate crimes, strengthening affirmative action and supporting anti-violence policies and/or programs.

WOONSOCKET, RI – YWCA Northern Rhode Island is celebrating the achievements of Rhode Island women promoting solutions to improve the lives of women, girls and people of color.

Women of Achievement Awards are recognized nationally as one of the most prestigious awards for women. The awards recognize the best in the accomplishments of women across industry, culture and public service in local communities.

The public is invited to participate. For details and a nomination form, visit http://www.womenofachievementri.org. Nomination applications are due by August 28 at 5pm. A nominee must live and/or work in Rhode Island. Note: YWCA membership is not necessary to nominate or receive Women of Achievement Awards.

An independent selection committee will select the award recipients. All nominees will be recognized by YWCA Northern Rhode Island.

Winners will be honored at the 5th Annual Tools of the Trade Luncheon at Kirkbrae Country Club in Lincoln on September 30 from 11:30am to 1:30pm. Deb Ruggiero, host and producer of “Amazing Women”, will emcee the luncheon. Tickets are $50. Event underwriting opportunities are also available. Proceeds benefit YWCA Northern Rhode Island, 86 years of excellence eliminating racism and empowering women.
